DEADPOOL REVIEW

I honestly didn't think I would like this film. When I first watched the trailer, I thought that Deadpool would be a superhero that was irritating. In the trailer, he broke the fourth wall which means talking to the audience. I didn't think this would work but, as it turns out, it does. This film is similar to Kick-Ass, as they both have a lot of humour and plenty of action.

This is the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool first made his appearance in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, however, since that film got mixed reviews when it was released, the filmmakers decided to start afresh and make a Deadpool origins story, so the Deadpool you see in Origins,  is a different Deadpool despite being played by the same actor. I think this was the right thing to do.

It's rare that a film based on a comic book superhero is rated a 15 (or R in the US), but for Deadpool, it works. The film is heavy on violence but it's not gory, in some ways, it's comical due to Deadpool's witty dialogue as he defeats the bad guys. 

I loved this film from beginning to the end. The opening sequence sees Deadpool defeating several bad guys with only 12 bullets. This is a great way to open the film as we see that Deadpool has a sense of humour as well as awesome fighting skills. We then see Deadpool speaking to us and telling us his story about how he became the 'anti-superhero' he is now. I think it's because of this that makes this film so different from the other comic book-based films that have been made. It's also very modern as there's one scene, just before a big fight sequence, where Deadpool turns to his ally, Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), and she's on her phone and he replies sarcastically, 'Oh, sure, finish your tweet'. I think this was very funny as it shows us how caught up in social media we've become.

Reynolds is perfect as Deadpool, which isn't really hard to believe as he's wanted this film to made for ages. No one can play Deadpool as well as him. 

Despite being set in the same Marvel Universe as the X-Men, no famous mutants are seen due to the production company 'not being able to afford them'. 

I can definitely see Deadpool being the next big superhero, along with the X-Men and Avengers. This film has already made over £13M at the box office in the UK and the majority of reviews are positive.

Overall, Deadpool is, by far, one of my favourite superhero films. It has a unique backstory and a likeable protagonist. 

I'd recommend this film to fans of Kick-Ass and X-Men.
